Physician-based Electronic Signature and Medical Record Review

ConfirMED is a healthcare provider desktop system.  It allows a provider the luxury of dictating, reviewing, editing, and electronically signing transcribed medical record reports from their own workstation, at work or at home.  Available in both windows and web versions, ConfirMED can be the beginning of provider-based portal or web site, or be integrated into an existing healthcare environment.

Providers securely log on to the system, and are provided a concise work list of their pending deficiencies.  Providers can quickly review a document, signing when correct, or dictate changes back to the transcription department.  For providers that want to make corrections themselves, editing capability is also provided.

Inbox

Intuitive interface to display provider's worklist of pending jobs.

View document

View, sign and edit a specified job.

Signature

Allows for configuration of signature behavior.

Import

Provides configuration of fields and documents to be imported from other external applications.

Export

Allows selected information to be extracted for external applications.

Works in any Environment

ConfirMED works with medical documents from different transcription departments at separate facilities, regardless of the type of transcription system used.   Compatibility between systems is one of the dilemmas that prevent some electronic signature systems from being viable across the enterprise.

The Problem:

Most other signature packages can only be implemented "per hospital" or "per clinic" and the system is often from the same company or vendor who provides the transcription system.  The provider is forced to learn different logins, procedures and interfaces for every different facility or organization they may need to visit.

These transcription system vendors don't want to integrate with their competitor's systems, trying to be the de facto signature solution themselves.  This attempt at vendor "lock-in" doesn't work, doesn't allow for "best of breed" products, and serves to restrict or complicate a provider's method of treatment.

The Solution:

ConfirMED overcomes this issue by remaining vendor neutral.  ConfirMED can take any transcription system's medical record reports, index them, and provide them for physician review regardless of facility.  This allows for the ability to have medical records from ALL of a provider's hospitals to come in to one common interface for review and signing.  All documents are then routed back to the appropriate agencies for fulfillment.

ConfirMED is the first product that addresses the "regional" nature of the healthcare professional's daily work flow.  By enabling the provider with a consistent, optimized and multiple-facility application, both goals of provider efficiency and hospital cost savings are achievable.  ConfirMED's aim is to improve the provider's existing work flow by fitting into their own way of providing treatment, not restricting their options by individual hospital rules and different vendor's systems.

ConfirMED enables hospitals to incorporate electronic signature capabilities into their existing environment seamlessly and cost-effectively. It offers investment protection by enabling the retention of current dictation and transcription software, building upon these proven investments.

Deployment Options

ConfirMED is component-based and internet/intranet enabled.  It can be the "front page" of your provider web site, or be a module or sub-page within an existing site.  A special "pass-though" authentication component can be used to avoid the multiple login scenarios common with integrated application from several different vendors.

ConfirMED can be deployed in several different flavors.

Per Facility:

Hospitals, clinics or facilities can install a ConfirMED server for all provider document needs.

Per Region:

Regional healthcare concerns can install a ConfirMED server for all of the hospitals or clinics in a metropolitan area for the ultimate productivity gains.

Per Healthcare Enterprise:

Large healthcare conglomerates can finally provide a consistent Provider desktop across all of their national hospital chain, regardless of individual hospitals existing IT systems.  ConfirMED servers are scalable and cluster-able to provide for the large enterprise.

Per Provider Group:

Individual Provider Groups and Insurance Providers can choose to implement the cost and time saving aspects of the ConfirMED system.  If hospitals within a region are unable or unwilling to implement a region-wide system, cost savings can still be realized by implementation via individual provider organizations.

At Transcription Service & Outsourcing Companies:

Use ConfirMED to enable "document review and signature" to any existing service offerings.  A transcription service company already has access to the medical reports.  To offer review and signature of those same reports is a value-add service that differentiates them from the competition (and provides an added incentive to renew that transcription contract at renewal time).

As an "Application Service Provider (ASP model):

Let Careforge worry about the deployment, server and software issues.  See ConfirMED ASP product page for details.

Reducing Costs

Ever-increasing costs have become a reality in the healthcare industry. Hospitals are constantly seeking ways to trim costs and increase revenue through improved worker productivity and efficiency.  Elimination of errors brings enhanced profitability through a reduction in claim denials and quicker turn-around times.

One of the last paper-driven costs in healthcare can be the printing and delivery of medical reports for provider sign off. These costs are extensive when you consider:

  • Printing (paper, toner, etc.)
  • Distribution and collection of documents to and from the Medical Records department
  • The people handling these paper transactions
  • The physician time spent creating, reviewing and signing these documents

This paper-driven process adversely impacts a physician’s ability to increase their patient load, and thus billable events. Potential delays between physicians and medical record departments can also adversely impact quality of care.

The primary goals of an electronic review and signature system are:

  • Increase billable events and revenues
  • Reduce overall paper-based costs
  • Enhance individual and collective productivity
  • Reduce errors and eliminate lost reports
  • Speed up the transcription review & approval process

Some electronic signature solutions have emerged.  They are typically expensive and need to be from the same vendor as the transcription system software.  If the current transcription system doesn't have an electronic signature option, often a full replacement of transcription & coding software must be considered.

ConfirMED can provide a cost-effective solution for any healthcare enterprise, while working in any dictation and transcription environment.
